The action was taken ‘to ensure any future development is visually and architecturally compatible and consistent with the goals and objectives of smart growth while safeguarding community character and maintaining/enhancing public access to Good Ground Park’” and to ‘help guide the (Southampton Town) Planning Board’s review for redevelopment in the Hamlet Center and surrounding business corridor as appropriate.’
Following the adoption of the Pattern Book, Alfred Caiola commented, ‘The passage of this document is a thoughtful and strategic response to the challenge of managing change while protecting our shared quality of life.’ In order to fully achieve the vision, the Town Board will next need to adopt revisions to the Town’s Zoning Code in order to allow for vibrant, mixed-use revitalization.
