Hampton Bays Revitalization

A Vision for Our Downtown

Vibrant Walkable Maritime Charm

Project Overview

A Vision for the Future

The Hampton Bays Downtown Revitalization Project is a plan to revitalize the heart of Hampton Bays by creating a vibrant, walkable downtown area.

Our aim is to connect people to the park and local businesses by creating spaces where residents and visitors can come together.
With diverse architecture that protects the unique character of Hampton Bays, along with sustainable planning and mixed-use development, we will work with the community to craft a future that embraces the maritime charm of Hampton Bays.

This approach ensures the long-term vitality of our hamlet, fostering a sense of unity while maintaining the area’s distinctive identity. By prioritizing sustainable growth, we aim to support local businesses and create a vibrant, welcoming environment for all.

Project Principles

A Vibrant, Walkable Downtown

We’re creating a lively and accessible downtown that embodies Hampton Bays’ quaint maritime charm.

Embracing Good Ground Park

Our plan connects people to the park with the downtown, ensuring that the community can enjoy seamless access between these two spaces.

Diverse Uses

We’re creating a lively and accessible downtown that embodies Hampton Bays’ quaint maritime charm.

A Downtown that Looks and Feels Good

The Plan will provide architectural character, variety and street proportions that fit the town’s aesthetic.

Bringing People Together

The Plan will provide a mix of uses – retail, residential, and shops nearby, with appropriate space for parking.

A Downtown for Future Generations

We’ll make sure our downtown works as a
cohesive place for generations to come

Shaping the Future of Hampton Bays

A Vision for a Vibrant and Sustainable Downtown

My name is Alfred Caiola, and as a long-time resident of Hampton Bays, my family and I are deeply committed to the future of our community. From my first visit as a child, I was captivated by its unique blend of natural beauty, local charm, and enduring spirit.

Today, Hampton Bays faces challenges that require thoughtful improvements, particularly in revitalizing and reimagining our downtown. We’ve created this platform to share ideas and, most importantly, to hear yours.

Our hamlet has a rich history of growth—from its rural beginnings to the vibrant area that blossomed with the arrival of the Long Island Railroad. Yet, Montauk Highway, which serves as our Main Street, lacks the pedestrian-friendly design that encourages exploration and engagement with local shops. It’s more of a thoroughfare than a true community hub.

We envision transforming downtown into a destination, not just a pass-through, by creating a new Main Street that embraces Good Ground Park. This pedestrian- friendly area would offer diverse shops, services, and mixed-use spaces, connecting seamlessly with the park to form a lively corridor where residents and visitors can enjoy cafes, green spaces, and local businesses.

Enhancing the existing Main Street with increased pedestrian activity and thoughtful improvements will preserve Hampton Bays’ quaint maritime charm while opening new opportunities for businesses to thrive, enriching the quality of life for all.

Bringing this vision to life begins with listening. We invite you to share your thoughts with us, and together, through thoughtful planning and community driven solutions, we can create a downtown that honors our past and paves the way for a vibrant future.
